Could The Defenders Be A Little Crowded?

With confirmation of two more returning cast members to the currently filming The Defenders, does it feel like maybe Marvel and Netflix are going a little overboard to please the fans of the first 3 series they have released as well as the upcoming Iron Fist?

Adding to the 4 protaganists Matt Murdock(Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones(Kristen Ritter), Luke Cage(Mike Colter) and Danny Rand(Finn Jones) as well as the unknown villainous role Sigourney Weaver has been cast in, we now have confirmation of Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, as well as a 3rd of Luke Cage’s love interests, Misty Knight (Simone Missick) who is joined by the previously mentioned Jones as well as already confirmed Claire Temple(Rosario Dawson).

This comes after previous confirmations that they will also be joined Daredevil’s Elden Henson(Foggy Nelson) and Scott Glenn(Stick) alongside Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse from Jessica Jones.

These as well as rumoured appearances from Jon Bernthal aka Frank Castle, Elodie Yung returning as Elektra,  Rachel Taylor as Trish Walker, Carrie Ann Moss’ Jeri Hogarth and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, the cast is starting to feel a little overblown.

Take into account that this isn’t even including any of the previous show’s villains appearing as well as the fact the show has also been confirmed to be a shorter series than the previous 4 at only 8 episodes, you could be forgiven for thinking that maybe it has been done the wrong way round, and that the solo shows should have been the shorter and give the team up event a longer run.

Can Jeph Loeb produce the same level of quality that Kevin Feige managed to produce with a larger cast for Civil War, or are they just going full scale for the sake of it?

Only time will tell as we have at least 8 months to wait until the show is released. Hopefully more sightings of filming will be made over the coming weeks.
